BRINGING BACK A CLASSIC: URBAN DECAY’S ALICE IN WONDERLAND PALETTE!

    101_0322101_0323101_0320101_0321
When you have as many palettes as I do, you have to go back to the older ones now and then to get some use out of them. Today I wanted to use a classic: Urban Decay’s Alice in Wonderland palette. I was a big fan of Tim Burton’s interpretation of the book and I really loved Urban Decay’s palette. The colors are phenomenal, bright and they scream: use me!

    101_0324101_0331101_0353101_0347101_0334
I decided to have a bright eye look today. Even though I have greenish-blue eyes, bright blue eyeshadow does look good on me. I Vorpal (shimmery medium gray) in the crease and Mushroom ( dark warm shimmery gray) on the outer part of the lid and under the eye. I put Alice (bright shimmery blue) and put that on the majority of the lid. I then put White Rabbit (shimmery, glittery cream) under the brow. Note: some of the colors are recycled Urban Decay shadows with new names. I don’t really care, as they colors are great and the payoff and pigmentation is wonderful! I lined the upper lid with Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Electric (shimmery turquoise) and for mascara I used MAC Haute and Naughty in Black.

On my cheeks I pulled out a really old Stila blush, Summer Bloom and used the Peach portion. On my lips I used MAC’s A Perfect Day from their Naturally collection. It is a peachy nude.

I think that sometimes we need to mix it up a little. I am tired of neutrals. I am looking forward to the spring color collections, especially MAC’s, as I see they are coming out with some cute stuff. January and February are always hard months. We find ourselves wishing for warm weather and lighter clothing. At least we can play with makeup to help ease the blues a little!

LIP TUTORIAL AND A GRIPE!

    101_0183
Recently I had a number of people asking about my lips and how they were done. So I thought I would show you in photos. I will try and do a video tutorial too. I will also be covering the eye makeup as I thought it looked pretty good today. And I have a gripe!
    101_0176101_0177101_0180
In the first photo you can see my lips are just covered with foundation to act as a base for the lipliner, the foundation I use varies every day. Today I used Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam. Then I cover my entire lip with lipliner, a light nude brown color. In this second photo you can see that my lips are covered with Cover Girl lipliner in Sublime. I go beyond the boundary of my lipline to create a fuller lip. In the third photo you can see that my lips have lipgloss on them. I decided to use Stila Sparkle Luxe Lipgloss in Fairy Dust, a Pink-Melon tone.

    101_0216101_0210101_0206101_0203
For the rest of my makeup today, I used Urban Decay eyeshadows on my eyes. I used Last Call (gorgeous shimmery dark purple mauve) in the crease, on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. Then I used Sin (dark shimmery beige) on the lid and Polyester Bride (glittery shimmery white) under the brow. To line the upper lid I used Illamaqua’s Precision Ink in Havoc (burgundy). For mascara I used Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes in Black. On the cheeks I used the new Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral (peachy coral).
I do have a big gripe with the Dream Bouncy Blush. I went to use it and I tried it. It was difficult to use. I finally was able to build some up with my fingers after severaluses but then the silly blush collapsed! I don’t recommend this. So now I have a cute colored blush that is collapsed and that doesn’t really deposit any color. I may take it back to Walgreens. It was expensive too!!!! Has anyone else found this to be a problem?

YIPPEE! URBAN DECAY DOES A FOLLOW UP WITH THE NAKED 2 PALETTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    100_9407100_9409100_9448
As you know I am crazy about the following: Urban Decay, eyeshadows and palettes! I was so happy to learn on December 1, 2011 that they came out with a follow up to my favorite palette, the Naked palette. The Naked 2 palette has 12 shadows, a small eyeliner and a small sample of lipgloss. Five of the eyeshadows are new ones, which is my only big gripe with this palette.

The shadows in this palette are: Foxy (matte medium cream), Half Baked (shimmery bronze), Bootycall (light shimmery champagne), Chopper (medium shimmery bronze tone with glitter), Tease (matte medium brown), Snakebite (dark shimmery brown), Suspect (shimmery grayish brown), Pistol (shimmery dark gray), Verve (shimmery light silver), YDK (very shimmery mauve brown), Busted (slightly shimmery dark brown) and Blackout (matte black). The 24/7 Pencil included is El Dorado (gold). The sample of gloss that is included is the Naked shade (pinkish brown). It also includes a nibe mirror to use and a crease/shader brush.
    100_9420100_9412100_9417100_9416100_9415
I did two looks from this palette. For this look I used Snakebite in the crease. Pistol was used in the outer corner of the eye and under the eye. On the lid I used YDK and under the brow I used Bootycall. I think Bootycall makes a great shadow for either opening the eye on the lid or under the brow in general! Then I used Smog 24/7 liquid liner on the upper lid and L’Oreal’s False Lashes mascara in Black. For the cheeks I used Pixi’s Lumi Lux Bronze Palette. On the lips I used NYX Mega Shine in Pink Frost.
    100_9425100_9427100_9429100_9437100_9432
This look has the eyes looking somewhat smokier even though some of the colors I used were a little lighter. This time I used Tease in the crease, then put Busted just below the crease and in the outer corner of the lid. I used Busted just under the eye too. I used Verve on the lid and Foxy under the Brow. MAC’s Definitely Feline Superslick Liquid Liner and L’Oreal False Lashes in Black were also used on the eye. On the cheeks I used Benefit’s Dandelion. The lips are a brownish silver with MAC’s Soft Sable.
This palette is currently available on the
www.urbandecay.com for $50.00. Worth it? For me yes. I love their shadows and I think they are worth every penny. Tons of pigmentation and not very powdery. I am doing the happy dance!!!!!!

URBAN DECAY’S MIDNIGHT EMERGENCY KIT

    100_8669100_8670100_8671100_8672
Okay, so I am a sucker for palettes. Especially Urban Decay palettes. I saw that they were coming out with this one and I said oh yeah, how cute is this! These shadows make the perfect neutral eye. It retails for $39.00 on www.urbandecay.com, and is exclusive to their website.
There are four shadows in the palette: Midnight Cowboy (glittery, shimmery light beige), Midnight Rodeo (NEW, shimmery medium taupe), Midnight 15 (shimmery light taupe) and AC/DC (shimmery mauve). It also comes with Midnight Cowboy Lip Junkie lipgloss and an eye shadow brush.

    100_8738100_8728100_8729100_8730100_8739100_8742

I wore the shadows like this: Midnight Rodeo in the crease (as you can see it is a light color but does provide a lot of payoff), AC/DC on the outer edge of the lid and underneath the eye (usually this color has more payoff but in this palette seems to be lacking that), Midnight 15 on the lid (I could barely see the shadow on my lid) and Midnight Cowboy under the brow (this shadow always seems to have good payoff). As you can see from the swatch photo Midnight 15 doesn’t even show up on my arm, while the others show up fine. For liquid liner I used Demolition 24/7 Liquid Liner (matte dark brown) and Maybelline Falsies Volume Express in Black Mascara. On my cheeks I used Giorgio Armani Blush #1, a very light cool pink tone. My lips are glossy with Midnight Cowboy Lip Junkie gloss (shimmery light beige).

My final verdict with this palette is that it is okay but not worth the $39.00 since the two of the shadows really don’t have much payoff. If I am paying a lot for something like this I expect the usual Urban Decay quality that they have earned throughout the years. This palette is sadly lacking in that quality.

Another Look With MAC Snowglobe Compact in Cool

I was so happy with the MAC Snowglobe Compact in Cool that I wanted to show another look I did.

    100_8485

Using the Snowglobe Cool Compact, I took Illegal Cargo (the light lavender) used it in the crease and under the eye close to the inner corner. Then I used Warm & Smoky (the shimmery blue) and used it on the outside of the lid and under the eye. I used the gorgeous Snowball (holographic white/green) on the lid and under the brow. For the liner I used Urban Decay’s liquid liner in Retrograde and MAC’s mascara in Opulash Black. My eyes look very open and the color of my eyes look very green today. Purple really does that to them.

    100_8486100_8488100_8490

On the cheeks I used Snowglobe Beauty Powder and on my lips I used a light brown liner with Double Spin Cremesheen lipstick. The colors in the compact are as follows: Snowball, Illegal Cargo, Idol Eyes, Wark and Smoky, Howzat and Set to Dance. For the swatches below I had to wet the first three to get them to show in the photo. The lipstick doesn’t show in the photo but looks great on my lips over liner.

    100_8449100_8450100_8462100_8457100_8483100_8464

The Snowglobe Compact (part of Ice Parade) is available at MAC counters and www.maccosmetics.com for $38.00. Double Spin (part of Glitter and Ice) lipstick is also available for $15.50. As mentioned before, this holiday collection is just great! I am so happy that I didn’t skip anything this year.
