SEPHORA PRISMA CHROME EYESHADOWS

On a very brief trip to the mall yesterday I ran in to Sephora and saw, front and center, a display for their new eyeshadow line, called Prisma Chrome. These are supposedly high shine beautifully shimmery, almost holographic shadows. I purchased Sapphire Shine No 30. There are 10 beautiful colors to choose from and two brushes. The shadows run $16.00 each. I must tell you, I was so looking forward to wearing this shadow today. I guess I wanted it to brighten my spirits, so to speak. This morning I got up, used my foundation, eyeshadow primer and the Sapphire Shine. My choice for primer was the Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which works just as well as the UD Primer Potion (but that is another blog entry all together!!!). I applied the shadow to the lower lid with a brush and used Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic’s Jubilee under the brow. It made for a beautiful eye. I had the pictures all ready to go this morning, then my daughter got the camera and deleted them to take pictures of the dog. So I had to do them again this afternoon! It actually is a good thing because, as you can see the shadow really didn’t last as I had hoped. I am so disappointed. It wore off on the outer half of the eye, even with the primer and I had to reapply. I never have to reapply shadows. This is unusual and for the money I spent I am not happy. I gave you the link to all the colors. Would I purchase any of them again? I don’t think so based on this one test run. I will have to try it again, with a different primer I think. If anyone else has used these shadows I would love to hear your results!

TOO FACED SWEET DREAMS: A SEPHORA EXCLUSIVE THAT MAKES A GREAT GIFT!

I have admitted it before, I am a palette freak. I love having a number of eyeshadows bundled up together for me to play with. Too Faced always comes out with some great little palettes. The fifteen shadows are: In The Buff (matte cream), Peach Fuzz (shimmery light golden peach), Copper Penny (shimmery copper), Teddy Bear (matte brown), Lovey Dovey (shimmery dark brown), Satin Sheets (shimmery pink/gold)), Cut the Cake (shimmery mauve), Party Girl (shimmery bright purple), Nice Ash (shimmery gray), Smolder (matte charcoal), Honeymoon (shimmery gold), Label Whore (shimmery brown flashing blue), Nice Stems! (shimmery golden green), Cop a Teal (shimmery teal), and First Dance (matte purple brown). For this look I am wearing Nice Ash in the crease, Party Girl on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye and defining the crease. On the lid I am wearing Nice Stems! and under the brow Satin Sheets. Lining the upper lid I am using a liquid liner from Urban Decay’s old line, a purple in Ecstasy. The mascara is Cover Girl’s Lash Perfection in Brown. On my cheeks I chose to use the highlighter in Candlelight Glow on top to bring out my cheeks and then used Sweet Pink to define them some. My lips are shimmering with NYX’s gorgeous Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Cosmo.

This palette looks like something I will have fun with for a long time. The eyeshadows have a lot of payoff, which is usual with Too Faced. They always have good quality shadows. Also, I love their shadow primer as much as Urban Decay’s and find myself reaching for it more and more. Their line has grown a lot in the last couple of years, making a name for itself with these cute palettes, all with sexy names. I don’t care if they have sexy names or not as long as the quality is there! Give this as a gift or keep it for yourself. Mmmm…keep it for yourself I think.

Some Good Basic Skin Care to Know: Yes, There is Always Time to Save Your Skin Part: 1

Let me tell you a secret. I am, gulp, 40 years old. I hate to admit it. Seriously. The reason why I am admitting this is because I have great skin and I don’t look 40 years old. I have people come up to me constantly asking for tips and tricks on makeup and skincare. So I thought I would start with some basics. I am an esthetician and makeup artist so I have at least a minimum of knowledge to get you on your way!

 

• Stay out of the sun or use a high SPF sunblock. I know you have heard this time and time again but it is the most important of any message that someone in the industry will tell you. Start early and use it often. I am of Germanic descent so I really have to watch, I burn like a lobster! If you can, pick an SPF with a mineral base. That wnuld be one that has the ingredients titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. These work to reflect the sun’s rays and are usually in sunblocks that are called “sensitive skin”. Chemical sunblocks are okay but can cause irritation in some people and they can not be used near the eye area.
• Second, as soon as possible, develop a skincare routine that is appropriate for your age. I have children and they already use moisturizer with sunscreen, body lotion after baths and showers, lip balm and copious amounts of hand cream to combat the dry air. Start your kids on a cleanser, and a light moisturizer with sunscreen at first. Make sure they stay up with it in the summer!
• If you start to develop acne, treat it right. I specialize in acne. It does not always need a physician but you have to also realize when over the counter products aren’t working either. Benzoyl peroxide works well, but it is a prophylactic (preventative) for acne and thus you need to use it all over not as a spot treatment. Also it is very drying to the skin, so those 10% amounts in the drugstore can cause an effect where the skin will produce more oil to compensate for the dryness, thus fueling the acne machine.
• Once you hit 20-30 you need to speed up the exfoliation process. Light peels and scrubs work well for this. The kind that you find at Sephora are great. Make sure to continue with the sunblock. Add an eye cream, very light, to prevent any fine lines from forming. Facials are nice to have once in a while or regularly if there is a condition that would require them.

I get little pimples on the back of my thighs. What causes this? How can I prevent them from appearing?

The little bumps are most likely hyperkeratinization, which is extremely normal. It can happen almost anywhere on your body: back of thighs, back of arms, on your back. The best way to diminish the appearance is to exfoliate regularly and to moisturize with a heavy cream. Meaning, do not use a lotion. The exfoliation will aid in sloughing away the dead skin cells and allows the newer, fresher skin to show. Using a heavier body cream will help keep the skin's hydration levels where they need to be to prevent your skin from drying out. Shaving can also play a role in causing these little bumps. While they may not develop into in-grown hairs, the hair follicle is wide open and this allows the bacteria/dirt to enter thus causing more little white bumps. Again, exfoliation is your best bet.

What I suggest is to exfoliate your skin 3 times a week. You don't want to over exfoliate as that can dry your skin out but just enough to keep the smoothness intact. Moisturize after every exfoliation/shower. Here is another little trick of mine. After I am done my showering/shaving/exfoliating, I always stand under the shower tap for 1 min with only cold water. It helps to close off any open pores as well!

And to help you buff away, you can use a loofah, which can be purchased from any drugstore. However, I suggest you buy cheap ones but it bulk. It is best if you throw away your loofah after 1 month of usage. Or you can use the loofah gloves. They have a rougher texture to them and can be used both wet and dry.

Try it out and you'll start seeing the differences right away!
