False Eyelashes Part 2

Now that you know the difference between the different types of false eyelashes out there, it is time to learn how to apply them!

Application of false lashes can be a little tricky at first, but after a little practice applying eyelashes really is quite simple and quick!

To help you out with application, here is a youtube video of Xsparkage showing how she applies false eyelashes.

My top tips for applying False Eyelashes:
    • Ensure you are using quality eyelash adhesive (glue). Poor quality glue will not stick the eyelashes properly, irritate your eyes or be hard to remove.
    • Fit the eyelashes to you eye before applying glue, and trim any excess length or sharp ends
    • While the glue is drying, blink quite a few times. this helps the false eyelash settle in to your natural lash line, and will feel more comfortable.
    • Hold the lash up to your eye! What may look very natural in the box, may look very dramatic once applied. Hold a few types up to your eyes to determine what best suits the look desired.
    • Purchase eyelashes that are slanted, with shorted lashes for the inner eye, and longer lashes for the outer eye. This will ensure the lashes blend well after application.
    • Curl your natural lashes with an eyelash curler before application and BEFORE mascara (Very important! You can snap your eyelashes if you try to curl them after mascara is applied!!)

False Eyelashes Part 1

False eyelashes can be quite tricky to apply if you have never tried before. There are also so many different types that it can be confusing to choose the right ones.

False eyelashes have many positive benefits, especially for people with small eyes. Eyelashes help to open your eyes, especially after creating a smokey eye look and with a bit of practice, take only a few minutes to apply.

This post will be in two parts - Part 1 will be explaining the different types of false lashes and their benefits, and Part 2 will tell you all about application of false eyelashes.

Here is an explanation on the different types of eyelashes you can purchase, how they differ and where you can find them!

    Individual/Cluster Lashes

Individual or Cluster Eyelashes are small 'pods' of false lashes, and as many or as little can be applied as you like. Great for a more natural look, however if you are someone who rubs their eyes etc, I recommend to steer clear. You may find them sticking out in the wrong direction in the middle of your date!
Lashout False Lashes by Model Co - Available from Priceline stores or at www.modelco.com.au

    Quarter or Half Lashes

Quarter or Half line lashes, are placed on the outer edge of your eye, and are perfect for adding a little bit of glam without being over the top. I recommend these types of false eyelashes for daytime wear, or for those who don't usually wear much makeup or have previously not worn false eyelashes before.

Sweet Blinks 1/4 lashes, Edges Series from Lash Republic - available at http://www.lashrepublic.com.au

    Full Lashes

Full line false eyelashes are the most common and easy to find, and usually what comes to mind when thinking of false eyelashes. These vary in size, colour and type from natural looking to the intense. Full or Half line lashes are usually the easiest to learn to apply, as they are easier to control.

Thick Human Hair Lash - Sandy from Wasp - Available from Wasp stores or www.wasphair.com.au

    Designer Lashes

Designer Lashes are usually full line false eyelashes, and come in a variety of styles including colours, diamantes, and feathers. Great fun for creative looks and dressing up!

Dramatic Pink & Black Lashes from Burlesque Baby - Available from www.burlesquebaby.com.au

Peach Blossoms Paper Eyelashes by Paperself - Available from www.paperself.com or www.lashrepublic.com.au

Feather Lash - Petal from Wasp - Available at Wasp stores or www.wasphair.com.au

    Under Lashes

Under Line false eyelashes are placed under your lower lash line to create a more dramatic look. These eyelashes are great for people who have very short, or sparse lower lashes.
Underlash - Short from Lash Republic - available at www.lashrepublic.com.au

You can also purchase various eyelash applicators to aid you, such as the ones below.

Purple Smokey Eye

I have recently dyed my hair dark once again after being red, which means I can finally start playing with colour makeup looks again! I love the colour purple, and my collection of purple eyeshadows have been quite neglected lately so I thought I would show you how to create a coloured smokey eye look.
This look is great for adding a pop of colour to your outfit, or for those of you who have small eyes and feel that you can't create a smokey eye look without your eyes disappearing all together. This also works great with blue, green or metallic colours.

What I used to create this look

    • Australis Eyeshadow Primer (aids in helping the colour apply brighter, and stay put)
    • Maskquerade Eyeshadow in 93 (used as a base colour all over the eyelid)
    • Medusa Eyeshadow in Electro Purple (Used in the inner corner of the eye to give a brighter colour pop)
    • Medusa Eyeshadow in Electro Black (Used along the lash line and outer corner of the eye - use a matt black eyeshadow for a more intense look)
    • Rimmel Soft Kohl Pencil Eyeliner in Black
    • False Eyelashes (Great for these looks as they help to open your eyes back up again)
    • Ausralis Paparazzi Perfect Blush in Shoot to Thrill
    • Face of Australia Bronzing Powder in Outback Bronze (for contouring on cheeks)
    • Medusa Lipgloss in Gossip

How To Repair Broken Eyeshadows

My lovely husband managed to knock my makeup case over last night and sent everything flying across the bathroom. Sure enough, more than one eye shadow was broken.

I thought that there would be no better time to show you how to repair broken eyeshadows rather than throwing them out!

There are quite a few ways to do this, and there are also products you can buy to help press the powder back into the pan. The easiest way I have found, is from a tutorial from Kandee Johnson. This video explains exactly what you will need, and how to press your eyeshadows again!

    Just to show you how it all turns out, here are the Before and After photos of my eyeshadows;

A few of my shadow mess before repair

And After (before drying). I vary the way I press my eyeshadows slightly as I find it quicker, and I don't mind if mine don't have a flat surface again, as long as they are in one piece!

I find that using paper towel or tissue and a coin when pressing the eyeshadow often tends to pick up much of the product and feels quite wasteful. Instead (making sure I have clean hands) I press the powder into place with my finger tip. I find that this is easier to control, and you don't lose as much product. You can be as fussy as you want when pressing the shape back - as you can tell I don't mind much about how the surface looks!

Hope I've taught you a way to rescue some of your eyeshadows!

Medusa Cosmetics

I wanted to share with you how big my Medusa Cosmetics collection has gotten - I almost have the whole line, just need to get the eyeshadow dust & eyeliner seal. I fell in love with Medusa cosmetics after receiving some of their eyeshadows, I love how highly pigmented all of the products are, great for those girls who love bright colours (and fantastic for photoshoots - since colours get washed away with the camera flash!)

The lipgloss packaging reminds me so much of Kat Von D! Super cute. These are all the products I have in my professional kit, but I also have my favourite of the eyeshadow colours in my personal makeup kit also. All of the eyeshadows have a shimmer to them, which is great as I love the matt Sugarpill eyeshadows, so I now have go to bright colours for both matt & shimmer looks. The possibilities of makeup looks that you can do with these products is endless, but here's one I did for you.

For this look, I first applied Stick It Eye Primer, then applied Safari Desert Rose Eyeshadow over the whole lid. I put Electro White eyeshadow in the corner of my eye, and started working out from the crease of my eyelid with Electro Pink Eyeshadow. Electro Purple Eyeshadow was used underneath my bottom lash line, and I finished with some eyeliner and false lashes.

On my cheeks I used Dangerous Liaison Blush, and Lips I used Australis Lipstick in Flamenco, with Medusa Loverboy lipgloss over the top. You can check out Medusa Cosmetics on their website, http://www.medusasmakeup.com/

Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think of the look!

All 48 colours were all mine to play around with! As well as both of their eyeshadow ranges (Electro and Safari) I also purchased their Black Panther Eyeliner, Eye Primer (Stick It!) and The Fix! Here I used Electro White, Electro Blue and Electro Black as well as Medusa's Black Panther Eyeliner.

To order, head over to their website

Medusa Cosmetics are located in the US, but had super reasonable shipping rates to Australia for how much I ordered. (I only payed $15 shipping!) There is also an option to select a free sample at checkout - who doesn't want that? I got one of their lipgloss to try out!

Beauty on a Budget

When it comes to your important Make Up kit items such as foundation, concealer, powder and mascara, it is best to invent in a high quality item, although usually much pricier you really get what you pay for with these items.

With that being said, we all sometimes have to be a little budget savvy, and there are many makeup items that you can sometimes find cheaper alternatives that work quite well.

I'm currently roadtesting BYS Glitter Eye Creme, this glitter can be applied with either your fingers, a make up brush or a cotton tip. I prefer to apply using a cotton tip as I am not a big fan of using my fingertips to apply makeup, and dont fancy washing the glitter out of my brushes after application!

To build up the colour use a dabbing teqnique instead of a wiping motion as you would use when applying eyeshadow - this insures you dont lose any product and it stays exactly where you put it!

BYS Glitter Creme comes in a varity of colours which is great! Above I have used (in order left to right) Two Tone, Gold Rush, Silver Spectrum, Disco, Purple Patch, Snowflake, Peek A Boo, Cherry Bloom, Blue Lagoon, and Peacock Blue.

Pros: Unlike most glitter, the glitter in these little pots is in a already in a cream form, meaning none of those runaway sparkles all over your cheeks once you have finished applying!

Cons: You do have to spend a little time building the glitter up to get an intense coverage, also the feel of the glitter can be a little course (especially when removing it) so I would keep it away from sensitive eyes, and stick to cheek bones & lips.

BYS Glitter Creme retails for $4.95 each, and can be purchased from most stores retailing cosmetics, or online at

I'm so excited to try out Kat Von D's Tattoo Concealer! I have 3 tattoos myself and plan on getting so many more, but I have had many brides inquire about getting their tattoos covered up for their wedding.

You can read all about it and buy it from:

Most Tattoo Concealers are quite costly so I'm interested to see how well this works!

Here's a video of Kat Von D talking about the product and at the promotional photoshoot for the advertising

This item will be going on my Makeup Wishlist - Stay tuned for a review!
