BRINGING BACK A CLASSIC: URBAN DECAY’S ALICE IN WONDERLAND PALETTE!

    101_0322101_0323101_0320101_0321
When you have as many palettes as I do, you have to go back to the older ones now and then to get some use out of them. Today I wanted to use a classic: Urban Decay’s Alice in Wonderland palette. I was a big fan of Tim Burton’s interpretation of the book and I really loved Urban Decay’s palette. The colors are phenomenal, bright and they scream: use me!

    101_0324101_0331101_0353101_0347101_0334
I decided to have a bright eye look today. Even though I have greenish-blue eyes, bright blue eyeshadow does look good on me. I Vorpal (shimmery medium gray) in the crease and Mushroom ( dark warm shimmery gray) on the outer part of the lid and under the eye. I put Alice (bright shimmery blue) and put that on the majority of the lid. I then put White Rabbit (shimmery, glittery cream) under the brow. Note: some of the colors are recycled Urban Decay shadows with new names. I don’t really care, as they colors are great and the payoff and pigmentation is wonderful! I lined the upper lid with Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Electric (shimmery turquoise) and for mascara I used MAC Haute and Naughty in Black.

On my cheeks I pulled out a really old Stila blush, Summer Bloom and used the Peach portion. On my lips I used MAC’s A Perfect Day from their Naturally collection. It is a peachy nude.

I think that sometimes we need to mix it up a little. I am tired of neutrals. I am looking forward to the spring color collections, especially MAC’s, as I see they are coming out with some cute stuff. January and February are always hard months. We find ourselves wishing for warm weather and lighter clothing. At least we can play with makeup to help ease the blues a little!

INGLOT: NEUTRAL EYE WITH A POP OF COLOR

    101_0242101_0244101_0246101_0247
One day I was lurking on Makeup Alley and I heard about this company called Inglot Cosmetics. So I took a look at their website, www.inglotcosmetics.com. I about drooled all over my keyboard. Everything looked so good. And the prices were pretty good too, in line with MAC. Plus they had what they call the Freedom System. With the Freedom System, similar to MAC’s pan system, you buy pan shadows, lipsticks or blushes, put them in a large magnetic holder and you have palettes. Inlgot now has a 40 pan Freedom palette! Also, their Freedom System is incredibly inexpensive! If you look at the amount of colors they have, you will be amazed. The shadows cost $5.00 each for the Freedom System. The palettes vary but a 20 shadow palette is $20.00.

Inglot was started over 25 years ago by a chemist who was doing R&D research for a pharmaceutical company. He wanted to produce high quality products that had good prices. I must say that he met his goal. Inglot is now available all over the world. I order from their store in New York at the Chelsea Market Building. Sometimes they are hard to reach via email but when you order online the order comes in a timely manner.

    101_0248101_0276101_0257101_0281101_0282101_0256
For this look I wanted to do a neutral eye with a pop of color. I love neutrals and I love purple, so I thought that would look great together and really bring out the green in my eyes. The hard thing about the Freedom System is that once the shadows are in the palettes they are VERY hard to get out! I am wearing Pearl 399 (shimmery medium taupe) in the crease. Defining the crease I am wearing Pearl 452 (shimmery reddish brown), I then used this color on the outer edge of the lid and underneath the eye. On the lid I used Pearl 441 (bright shimmery purple) and under the brow AMC Shine 29 (shimmery, glittery pink). Lining the upper lid I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in #8, shimmery purple. My mascara is MAC False Lashes in Black.

I used Inglot products on my cheeks and lips today too. Their blushes and lipsticks are also particularly good. My blush is AMC 57 (shimmery pink). AMC stands for Advanced Makeup Components, these run a little higher in price, $14.00. I looked on the site and it doesn’t explain what AMC really means but I am assuming that the product has extra shimmer or glitter to it. On my lips I am wearing Lipstick 413, a Matte Light Pink, $12.00. I find it a little drying on the lips. I prefer their other lipsticks, which are phenomenal in color and texture.

I am really happy with the payoff and pigmentation of all the products I have tried in the Inglot line. I have pigments, blushes, liquid liners, eyeshadows and lipsticks. The eyeshadows go on like butter! I highly recommend this line to anyone, whether they are just starting out with a makeup collection or have a collection already. You will not be disappointed.

STILA: IN THE GARDEN PALETTE and A SURPRISING NEW GREAT LIPCOLOR!

    101_0018101_0019101_0020
As I may have mentioned many, many times before: I am a palette junkie. If someone puts out a palette then chances are I am going to check it out. Stila has been putting out some cute ones lately and the quality of their line has dramatically increased to when they were originally created by makeup artist Jeanine Lobell. The line is fun and carefree and this spring/summer the palette they came out with, called In The Garden, consists of 10 eyeshadows that reflect the attitude of spring color. It also comes with a Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner in Starfish (shimmery gray with gold).

The ten shadows are: chinois (matte cream), breeze (shimmery light taupe), bark (shimmery gray taupe), freesia (shimmery bluish purple), rosette (shimmery purple), nectar (fine shimmery vanilla), honey (shimmery gold), sage (shimmery light pale green), moss (shimmery greenish gold) and juniper (shimmery cool green). The palette is $39.00 and can be found in stores and online at www.stilacosmetics.com, www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com and www.beauty.com. The shadows are just as good as always: creamy and soft. Some are a little too soft and there is a little bit of fallout. But in general I am happy with the palette.

Today I chose a smoky green look from the palette: I used bark in the crease, then moss also in the crease to give the eye more definition. Moss was also used on the outer lid and underneath the eye. I used sage on the lid and breeze underneath the brow. I used Make Up For Ever Aqua liner #3 Iridescent Emerald Green on the upper lid and Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes mascara in black. On the cheeks I used Sue Devitt’s Studio Blush in Koh Samui.

For lips I used a new lipcolor, Salma Hayek’s Nuance line lipstick in Shimmering Nude. I LOVE this color! Not only is it just about the perfect nude lipcolor with just a hint of shimmer to it but it is moisturizing and long lasting. I picked this up at CVS, where I believe the line is carried exclusively. I was not interested in any of the other colors but I really liked this one. As you can see on my lips it is a good nude tone.

SMASHBOX BE DISCOVERED PALETTE FOR SPRING

    101_0050101_0051101_0052101_0082

When I saw the palette that Smashbox had put out for spring, I knew I had to have it. The perfect blend of neutrals with a pop of color looked promising! When I received it yesterday I was very happy with how it looked. I thought that the shadows, while being very neutral, would give some nice looks. As you can see from the swatch photo, some of the shadows swatched very light. However, when I used them on my eye over a primer they turned out very nice. There are eight shadows in the palette: a matte dark cream tone, slightly shimmery medium pink, shimmery off white, shimmery dove gray, matte dark taupe brown, shimmery honey tone, matte gray brown and finally a shimmery lavender.

    101_0054101_0069101_0071101_0067101_0075101_0076101_0080

For this look I used the matte dark taupe brown in the crease, then took the matte gray brown and used it under that color to define the crease more. I used the matte gray brown in the outer corner of the lid and under the eye. I used the shimmery lavender on the lid and the shimmery dove gray under the brow. I used an older liquid liner from Urban Decay called Ecstasy (bright purple) and Maybelline Lots of Lashes mascara in black. Overall it gave my eye a light, nice spring look without being too dramatic.

On my cheeks I used the new Revlon Photoready Blush in Pink. On my lips I used Smashbox’s Photofinish Lipstick in Beautiful, which is a gorgeous light pink coral. Overall the look says spring without being too heavy. I am very happy with it.

The Be Discovered Palette retails for $44.00 and is available at www.smashbox.com, www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com and www.beauty.com. The lipstick retails for $19.00 and is also available where Smashbox is sold online. Questions or comments, please let me know!

THE 10 BEST BEAUTY ITEMS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

I think you already know this, but the holiday season brings out my inner beauty nut. Beauty companies compete for our hard earned dollars with fabulous limited edition blockbuster sets that all of us fight to obtain by sometimes staying up late into the night (admit it, you have done this). Today I want to discuss my 10 favorite beauty items for the 2011 holiday season. You have gift cards and you want to spend them, am I right?

    100_9407100_9409100_5017100_5018100_8619100_8620100_8621

First, let’s talk palettes. I have three palettes that I think are part of this holiday’s best offerings. Two are from Urban Decay. I am loving their Naked 2 palette (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/12/yippee-urban-decay-does-follow-up-with.html) and their 15th Anniversary Set (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/07/urban-decays-15th-anniversary-palette.html). I chose this over their Book of Shadows IV because of the newer shadows it had in it. Finally, the third set is a Too Faced kit that has almost everything in it, Too Faced Sweet Dreams (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/11/too-faced-sweet-dreams-sephora.html), which is a Sephora exclusive.

    100_9617100_9616100_9612100_9615

Other items I am think are particularly special right now are: MAC False Lashes (www.maccosmetics.com), $19.00. I am a huge fan of mascaras and I think this one really makes lashes look long and lovely. Usually I don’t promote hair care products very much, but there are times when I cannot wash my hair because I am not feeling well. I have found the ultimate dry shampoo. It is Oscar Blandi’s Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray, $23.00. A few sprays in and around the scalp and my hair is good to go for another day. And I have asked hair dressers many times, they keep telling me that constantly washing the hair can cause it to be too dry. I have mentioned before that my glowing skin is due to philosophy’s Microdelivery Mini Peel (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/07/philosophys-microdelivery-mini-peel.html ), which used every day gives me the look of skin that is eternally 30ish!, $35.00 One other product I like from philosophy right now are their Miracle Worker Retinol pads that are applied in the evening. They come with a bottle of retinol that is poured over the pads and you use them up. Very nice! (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254602&categoryId=C10462) $70.00

I am also a big lipstick and lipgloss fanatic. This season I have been digging around looking for sets that have some great colors. Lorac has one that is only $25.00 and is available at Sephora.com (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P295483&categoryId=C106). It has six colors in it that have a good range. This would be great for that gift card you get! These next two items are not sets, but I have to include them because they are the best made lipsticks out right now. Illamasqua and Inglot both have wonderful lipsticks. I love Illamasqua for their color range and the pigmentation they have. These lipsticks are available at www.illamasqua.com or on www.sephora.com. Well worth the price. They are a little dry but you can wear lipbalm underneath to counteract that. As for Inglot, their lipsticks have a creaminess and pigmentation that are amazing but they are harder to come by. You have to either live near a store or order directly from www.inglotcosmetics.com. They also have a HUGE color selection. Both of these lines also have wonderful eyeshadows. I wanted to pick those but I really wanted to pick the palettes as gift items that you should get yourselves!

Well, this is my pick for the best out for this holiday season. I hope you like it. If not, would love to hear what you have to add as your own. I know there are so many more products. I didn’t even get to talk pigments like OCC! I guess I will have to make another list soon…
