TOO FACED NATURAL AT NIGHT

    100_9948100_9949
Too Faced puts out the cutest palettes and I must own every one of them it seems! For spring they have extended the theme of their nude and natural look to Natural at Night. This is a collection of nine eyeshadows that are all brown based. As usual, they are quite lovely on. The pigmentation is good and they blend well. The palette is divided into three looks, Fashion, Classic and Night. I find that the shadows do mix well with each other into different looks though. There are also cards that come with the palette. You pick one and it shows you how to create the perfect natural eye.

For this first look I used Night Fever (dark shimmery cocoa) in the crease, Moon Stone (shimmery Khaki) defining the crease, on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. I then used After Hours (shimmery medium taupe) on the lid and Night Light under the brow (shimmery nude pinky-brown). For lining I used Make Up For Ever liquid liner #11 and MAC False Lashes in Black. The look was very sultry I found.

For this second look I went with colors that were not as shimmery. I used Nightcap (slightly shimmery khaki) in the crease. The I used Cocoa Star underneath that to define the crease a little more, also placing it on the outer edge of the lid and underneath the lid. I used Full Moon (shimmery gold) on the lid and Spotlight (matte cream) under the brow. I finished with MAC’s Super Slick liner in Definitely Feline (dark taupe) and Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara in Black.

I find all of the colors in this palette to be very warm in general, if you are cool toned you might want to skip this one unless you feel like taking a walk on the wild side for a change. This palette retails for $36.00 and can be found at www.toofaced.com, www.ulta.com and Ulta retail outlets, www.sephora.com and Sephora retail outlets. I am happy with it but, as I mentioned, I am generally pretty happy with the quality and style of the palettes that Too Faced puts out. Let me know what you think!

THE 10 BEST BEAUTY ITEMS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

I think you already know this, but the holiday season brings out my inner beauty nut. Beauty companies compete for our hard earned dollars with fabulous limited edition blockbuster sets that all of us fight to obtain by sometimes staying up late into the night (admit it, you have done this). Today I want to discuss my 10 favorite beauty items for the 2011 holiday season. You have gift cards and you want to spend them, am I right?

    100_9407100_9409100_5017100_5018100_8619100_8620100_8621

First, let’s talk palettes. I have three palettes that I think are part of this holiday’s best offerings. Two are from Urban Decay. I am loving their Naked 2 palette (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/12/yippee-urban-decay-does-follow-up-with.html) and their 15th Anniversary Set (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/07/urban-decays-15th-anniversary-palette.html). I chose this over their Book of Shadows IV because of the newer shadows it had in it. Finally, the third set is a Too Faced kit that has almost everything in it, Too Faced Sweet Dreams (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/11/too-faced-sweet-dreams-sephora.html), which is a Sephora exclusive.

Other items I am think are particularly special right now are: MAC False Lashes (www.maccosmetics.com), $19.00. I am a huge fan of mascaras and I think this one really makes lashes look long and lovely. Usually I don’t promote hair care products very much, but there are times when I cannot wash my hair because I am not feeling well. I have found the ultimate dry shampoo. It is Oscar Blandi’s Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray, $23.00. A few sprays in and around the scalp and my hair is good to go for another day. And I have asked hair dressers many times, they keep telling me that constantly washing the hair can cause it to be too dry. I have mentioned before that my glowing skin is due to philosophy’s Microdelivery Mini Peel (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2011/07/philosophys-microdelivery-mini-peel.html ), which used every day gives me the look of skin that is eternally 30ish!, $35.00 One other product I like from philosophy right now are their Miracle Worker Retinol pads that are applied in the evening. They come with a bottle of retinol that is poured over the pads and you use them up. Very nice! (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254602&categoryId=C10462) $70.00

I am also a big lipstick and lipgloss fanatic. This season I have been digging around looking for sets that have some great colors. Lorac has one that is only $25.00 and is available at Sephora.com (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P295483&categoryId=C106). It has six colors in it that have a good range. This would be great for that gift card you get! These next two items are not sets, but I have to include them because they are the best made lipsticks out right now. Illamasqua and Inglot both have wonderful lipsticks. I love Illamasqua for their color range and the pigmentation they have. These lipsticks are available at www.illamasqua.com or on www.sephora.com. Well worth the price. They are a little dry but you can wear lipbalm underneath to counteract that. As for Inglot, their lipsticks have a creaminess and pigmentation that are amazing but they are harder to come by. You have to either live near a store or order directly from www.inglotcosmetics.com. They also have a HUGE color selection. Both of these lines also have wonderful eyeshadows. I wanted to pick those but I really wanted to pick the palettes as gift items that you should get yourselves!

Well, this is my pick for the best out for this holiday season. I hope you like it. If not, would love to hear what you have to add as your own. I know there are so many more products. I didn’t even get to talk pigments like OCC! I guess I will have to make another list soon…

Another Look With MAC Snowglobe Compact in Cool

I was so happy with the MAC Snowglobe Compact in Cool that I wanted to show another look I did.

    100_8485

Using the Snowglobe Cool Compact, I took Illegal Cargo (the light lavender) used it in the crease and under the eye close to the inner corner. Then I used Warm & Smoky (the shimmery blue) and used it on the outside of the lid and under the eye. I used the gorgeous Snowball (holographic white/green) on the lid and under the brow. For the liner I used Urban Decay’s liquid liner in Retrograde and MAC’s mascara in Opulash Black. My eyes look very open and the color of my eyes look very green today. Purple really does that to them.

    100_8486100_8488100_8490

On the cheeks I used Snowglobe Beauty Powder and on my lips I used a light brown liner with Double Spin Cremesheen lipstick. The colors in the compact are as follows: Snowball, Illegal Cargo, Idol Eyes, Wark and Smoky, Howzat and Set to Dance. For the swatches below I had to wet the first three to get them to show in the photo. The lipstick doesn’t show in the photo but looks great on my lips over liner.

The Snowglobe Compact (part of Ice Parade) is available at MAC counters and www.maccosmetics.com for $38.00. Double Spin (part of Glitter and Ice) lipstick is also available for $15.50. As mentioned before, this holiday collection is just great! I am so happy that I didn’t skip anything this year.

Is It Worth It? Pixi’s Week of Wakeup Makeup

    100_7896

Every time I go into Target, I pass the Pixi counter. Luring me. Lighted and pretty. And expensive. I often what made Target enter the arena of high-end cosmetics. And, to that extreme, I often wonder if those cosmetics are selling. I rarely buy anything there, maybe an eyeshadow or liquid liner here or there. One thing I noticed that was moderately expensive was the Pixi Week of Wakeup Makeup that was selling for $34.00. One day I found this little gem on sale for $10.50 on HauteLook. Yippee! Did I just have a lucky day or what?

    100_7944100_7931100_7942

Today, Monday the 10th of October, I decided to wear the Monday look. The Monday look is composed of peachy tones. All the shadows are variations on peach, from a peachy copper to a very light peach. The lipgloss is a shimmery pink. I added Urban Decay’s Roach liquid liner and the new Cover Girl lash perfection in Brown.

Just from the colors I have used today, I am very happy with this little box of fun. I was lucky enough to get it from HauteLook, so if you ever see it on sale feel free to grab it without feeling as if you are wasting your money. I don’t feel it is worth $34.00 but if you can get it for less than $15 or so, that is a good bargain!
