A Look With Illamasqua, Items that Tickle Your Fancy.

DSCF2592When I first discovered Illamasqua, it was like I was a kid in a candy store. I couldn’t believe there was this great makeup line out there similar in style to MAC but edgier. The quality is great and they have some awesome products. The line is based in the UK but can be found at Sephora or www.sephora.com in the US. Online they can also be found at www.illamasqua.com.

For this look I wanted to show off some of their fun products and also just make a nice “neutral” look. The line is known for some way out there looks, as you will see if you visit their website (which I encourage you to do). I used three Pure Pigments on my eye. The darkest, Fervent, is in the crease. It is a reddish brown that flashes green. This set the tone for the whole look. Then I used another Pure Pigment in Lust, a shimmery green on the lid. Finally, under the brow, I used Beguile Pure Pigment. It is from the new collection called Theatre of the Nameless. It is a gorgeous white that flashes iridescent. I lined my upper lid with Havoc Precision Ink, a dark burgundy. This really made my eyes look green. Finally I used the new Lots of Lashes mascara in Black from Maybelline.

On my cheeks I used Hussy Powder Blush, which is beautiful bright matte pink. Even though it looks really bright in the pan it goes on much softer. It made my cheeks look very rosy. I lined my lips with a soft brown lip pencil and then used the Sheer Lipgloss in Soul. Even though it says sheer, this lipgloss has much more payoff than expected. Soul is a neutral nude peach with shimmer. It really made my lips look large and full.

Top to bottom: Pure Pigments in Beguile, Lust and Fervent. Blush in Hussy. Sheer Lipgloss in Soul. Precision Ink in Havoc.

I hope you like this look. I find that it gave my eyes a slightly more youthful look and hey, that is always a good thing!

Let’s Get Naked. Naked lips that is…

Recently Urban Decay decided to expand on the popularity of their Naked palette by adding a few complementary colors to their line of cosmetics. Their Naked palette has been the most successful palette to this date. It’s no surprise really, considering how they managed to come out with so many beautiful, buttery neutral shades in one cute little velvety box.
The new products are: Naked Lipstick ($22.00), Naked 24/7 Glide On lip pencil ($18.00), the 27/7 Travel Set of 5 ($32.00) and Naked Lip Junkie Lip Gloss ($19.00). They are exclusive to Urban Decay. I previously reviewed the travel pencil set here, Urban Decay Holiday Sets, so I won’t go into that one again.

When I got the email for the Naked products all I was promised was: Get More Naked. Basically they wanted to expand the products to include some items that would look nice with the Naked palette. I thought, okay, sounds good to me! I am always on the search for the perfect lip liner. I have in my possession, probably 30 “naked” looking lip liners that I have been hoping will do the job. I like a light brown with just the slightest hint of pink. How hard is that?

I applied the Naked lip liner this morning and it looked very nice, pink with just the slightest hint of brown (and I mean just the slightest). I then applied the Naked lipstick, which is very creamy. Such a nice formula now! I haven’t used an Urban Decay lipstick in ages and their formula has changed a lot, it used to be very dry. One thing about the tube. It is difficult to open. The end of the tube is shaped as a knife. To open the tube one must pull hard on the knife. I think the design of the tube should be changed. The Naked color is very pink, it does not make my lips look “naked” at all. I have other colors that are much more suited for this. Then I tried the lip gloss. The color is exactly the same as the lipstick. I find that really nice. UD Lip Junkie is very sticky and has some peppermint in it, so when first applied it feels fresh. That freshness seems to last at least for a half an hour. The lip gloss is shimmery but not to the point that other people will feel blinded.

Overall, I am glad I purchased the three products. I really like the lip liner. Urban Decay makes great long wearing pencil products and this one is no exception. After taking the swatch photo, it took a lot of scrubbing to get the pencil off. Also, I love the formulas and color for the lipstick and gloss. Urban Decay seems to come out with winners more often than not every year. I am rarely disappointed with any of their products.

Is It Worth It? Pixi’s Week of Wakeup Makeup

    100_7896

Every time I go into Target, I pass the Pixi counter. Luring me. Lighted and pretty. And expensive. I often what made Target enter the arena of high-end cosmetics. And, to that extreme, I often wonder if those cosmetics are selling. I rarely buy anything there, maybe an eyeshadow or liquid liner here or there. One thing I noticed that was moderately expensive was the Pixi Week of Wakeup Makeup that was selling for $34.00. One day I found this little gem on sale for $10.50 on HauteLook. Yippee! Did I just have a lucky day or what?

    100_7944100_7931100_7942

Today, Monday the 10th of October, I decided to wear the Monday look. The Monday look is composed of peachy tones. All the shadows are variations on peach, from a peachy copper to a very light peach. The lipgloss is a shimmery pink. I added Urban Decay’s Roach liquid liner and the new Cover Girl lash perfection in Brown.

Just from the colors I have used today, I am very happy with this little box of fun. I was lucky enough to get it from HauteLook, so if you ever see it on sale feel free to grab it without feeling as if you are wasting your money. I don’t feel it is worth $34.00 but if you can get it for less than $15 or so, that is a good bargain!
