SPECIAL EDITION: MAKEUP LOOK ON THE OLDEST DAUGHTER!

In a Hell Freeze’s Over moment, my daughter said yes to me doing her makeup AND posting it here on the blog! We took a few products that I had planned to review and decided to use them in one fell swoop. She was very relaxed about the whole idea, meaning she didn’t want to put her hair down or change her clothes. You know how adolescents are! Normally she is a beauty queen type. So excuse the yellow tee that seems to clash.



 

We used pop Beauty’s Lid Pastel which looks adorable in the pan. It has six shadows, ranging from white to purple. These can be added to shadow you have on to make them pop a bit more or alone for a more subtle but shimmery pastel look. When added to my daughter’s eye, as you can see, it was more along the lines of where the heck were they? I even wet them for more pigmentation and I still got nada, zip, zilch! I used the green in the crease and the pink on the lid. From the photos it looks like there is almost nothing there. I would not recommend these for anyone. I purchase them from www.hautelook.com but I also think the are available at Target stores. To line her eyes I used an old HIP Studio Secrets liner in Violet. These go on so smoothly. I really should use more of them as opposed to liquid liner! They go on like buttah! Then we applied e.l.f. liquid eyeliner in Stardust, a glimmery, glittery liner that on top of the HIP liner looked adorable.

 

For the cheeks I wanted to try the new Revlon Photoready blush in Pink Rose. I use this on myself all the time and like it a lot. I figured it would look great on her, right? My daughter has a completely different bone structure than I do and blush doesn’t really look that great on her yet. She is only 12. I used the pink color on the apples of her cheeks and it looked somewhat pink. Then I tried to contour but it didn’t really look that good. I highlighted the upper part of her cheeks with the highlighter and it looked somewhat better. All in all, the blush really wasn’t her thing. Maybe a cream blush would look better on her. She could control the color better and I would recommend a bright pink tone so that it could be toned down a little by powder. For her lips she picked out a Hard Candy gloss I had sitting around. She loves Hard Candy and always buys their products. This one is the Plumping Serum volumizing lipgloss in spark ( a bright shimmery pink). My daughter has cute lips that are almost perfectly shaped and don’t need lipliner. I am soooooo jealous! I applied the gloss and it looked really good on her lips. The pink was a nice color, not too loud, just enough shimmer. I would recommend this for adults and kids alike.

 

Unfortunately, out of everything I reviewed here, I would really only recommend the e.l.f. liquid liner and the Hard Candy lip gloss. I like the blush for myself but I think it works great for my cheek bones. Anyway, I hope this was helpful for your preteen. Yes, my daughter is really into makeup. She takes after me of course!

MAYBELLINE DREAM NUDE AIRFOAM AND REVLON PHOTOREADRY AIRBRUSH FOUNDATIONS

I am a big fan of Maybelline’s Dream Nude foundations. This line must be popular with many people since they keep adding to it with different types of foundations. I especially like the Dream Nude Mousse. So I was intrigued to find the new Dream Nude Airfoam. It is $10.99 at Walgreens without any specials this week. I purchased Porcelain Ivory since I am very fair. It has a SPF 16 sunscreen in it, but given that the sunscreen is chemical, I would not count on it for protection. Make sure to use a moisturizer or regular sunscreen with at least 30 in it underneath the foundation for the best protection.

The second foundation I am going to review is the Revlon Photoready Airbrush foundation, which is an extension of their Photoready line that is very popular. I found this in 001 Vanilla at Wal-Mart for $10.48. Unlike the Maybelline foundation, the Revlon one doesn’t have an SPF in it (highly unusual these days) so you will definitely need to wear at least a 15 or higher when using this.

This morning, 12/30/11, I decided to use the Maybelline Dream Nude Mousse. The instructions are very specific: shake, hold can upright and dispense onto a tissue the first time. I didn’t follow them. I went ahead and dispensed onto my sponge. Because I have issues with my right hand I found it hard to press the applicator. I am not sure if this will be an issue with everyone. I doubt it. Anyway, I pressed and a HUGE amount of product came out. It was very light at first and then it oxidized into the right color for my skin. Actually, the very first amount of product that came out was white but I threw that away. I found the foundation easy to blend into the skin. I did not, however, have much coverage. This disappointed me.

This afternoon I decided to try the Revlon Airbrush foundation. I must say that there is a major difference in this one. I shook it first and when it came out it was easier and the mousse was definitely less yellow. Also, there was less of it. For me, being slightly disabled right now, it is nice so that I don’t feel I am wasting so much product. When I applied it the mousse melded right into my skin and seemed to cover a little bit better than the Maybelline one.

When you have a mousse foundation you cannot expect it to cover like a liquid, that is the most important thing to remember. Also, because it is aerated, it will not have as much product in the container and will not last as long as other foundations. That said, it is a nice change of pace to have a mousse foundation, similar to the ones that were around in the early 1990’s! I like the Revlon one better, as it has a better tone for my skin and better coverage. I would love to hear comments from you!

Much more impressed with the Revlon than the Mayelline. Tried the Maybelline again today and had same results: a ton of foam came out and it was very yellowish on my skin.. Tried Revlon yesterday on full face and loved it, the foam was more neutral and I didn't need a lot of it for my face to cover the entire thing. I do like the Revlon better.
